The Nosy Tanikely Marine Park
Nosy Be, "the big island", is an island off the northwestern coast of Madagascar, it is one of the most touristic places in Madagascar. The Nosy Tanikely Marine Park, located half an hour from Nosy-Be, is one of the most popular dive sites. It offers a shallow depth and a clear and transparent water to appreciate the extraordinary spectacle of multicolored corals. You can also see starfish, sea anemones, sea turtles or even seahorses. Unfortunately, as the place is very popular, expect to meet many other divers.
Greg Wall's site on Radama Island
Among the best sites around Nosy Be, you can also go to Greg Wall, off Antany Mora, on Radama Island. A breathtaking show awaits you, especially if you dive deep enough. An underwater cave is located at a depth of 35 meters. By lighting a torch, you can admire sea cicadas, tropical sea bream, manta rays, shrimps, discolored sponges, etc. The depth of this site ranges from a plateau to 13 meters followed by a steep drop in which one can dive up to 38 meters. It is accessible to experienced divers.
Sites for experienced divers
Many other sites exist on the west coast of Nosy Be Island. These are sites exclusively for experienced divers because they are quite far from beaches and sometimes there are strong currents. For example, you can dive at Atlantis Point, near the Crab Bank, not far from Andilana. It is a quiet place with wonderful corals and many marine species: triakis semifasciata, manta ray, sea turtle, eagle ray, etc. Manta Point is the perfect place to observe manta rays, especially in September, where you will see them feeding on plankton.
The archipelago of Mitsio
The Mitsio Islands are about 40 kilometers north of Nosy Be. This is the ideal place for adventurers: these islands are wild and quite isolated. You can stay here for a few days with a boat rental or camp on one of the islands and spend the rest of your vacation diving in its many sites. The five main islands are: Grande Mitsio, Nosy Lava, Nosy Ankarea, the Four Brothers and Nosy Tsara Banjina. You will be seduced by the great diversity of fish and corals. You will be able to see moray eels, barracuda or tuna.
