Vangaindrano is a region located in the southeastern part of Madagascar. Translated literally, the term "Vangaindrano" means "where you buy water". The chief town of this region bears the same name and is located about twenty kilometers from the east coast of Madagascar, and more than 75 kilometers south of Farafangana. As a reversal, Vangaindrano is at the end of the RN12 coastal road. Once on the scene, you will discover a charming tropical city animated by the coming and going of rickshaws.
The riches of the region
Located in the southeast of the Big Island, Vangaindrano is a region renowned for its natural wealth. Naturally fertile, the soil of this locality is excellent for developing agricultural activities of rent, especially since a large majority of the local population is affected to this promising sector. Taking advantage of its hot and humid tropical coastal climate, many farmers are starting to plant rice, cassava, sweet potatoes and tropical fruits. Vangaindrano is also known for its plantations of prestigious products such as vanilla, cloves, spices and coffee. It is also rich in mining resources, but unfortunately, their exploitation is poorly organized.

You can easily access the Manombo Special Reserve, located between the cities of Farafangana and Vangaindrano to discover several species of endemic lemurs such as "Eulemur Albocallaris" and "Varicia Variegata" that are specific to the region. In addition, you can also head to the South Midongy National Park about 90 km from the town of Vangaindrano and familiarize yourself with different species of reptiles, birds and lemurs such as the Tarondro "Furcifer verrucosus", Fossa "Cryptoprocta ferox" or "Centropus toulou".
